Supported Employment
Studies have shown that work helps people experiencing mental health or substance use problems recover and better control their symptoms. Therefore, Shawnee offers an employment program that helps people with serious mental health conditions (and other types of disabilities) locate, obtain, and maintain employment. Our experienced employment staff develop a career profile with people receiving this service to help identify what type of employment the person is interested in. Once a person obtains employment, we continue to provide support, including on the job support if needed, to ensure the person is successful in their employment.
Supported employment is a type of employment service that is called an evidence-based practice (EBP). An evidence-based practice is one that has been shown through research to have good results. Shawnee’s employment program has been designated as meeting the supported employment model requirements by the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS). OMHAS visits our clinic every two years to ensure that we still meet the requirements of this model.
